PAYING-IT-FORWARD FAQ

This program is available exclusively during Utah Trans Pride.

WHAT IS THE PAYING-IT-FORWARD PROGRAM?

Selling items at pride festivals is a great way to fundraise. Unfortunately, this isn't an option for everyone. Our goal is to give fundraising opportunities to those that would not otherwise have them. During Utah Trans Pride, Genderbands will sell donated items on behalf of the program member. After Pride, funds raised by those items will be granted to the program member for their transition needs.

DO I HAVE TO BE FUNDRAISING FOR MY TRANSITION TO APPLY?

Yes. The Paying-It-Forward Program is a transition-related fundraising assistance initiative through our Transition Grant Fund. Things considered transition-related include but are not limited to name change fees, transition-related doctor appointments, gender-affirming clothes, HRT, and surgery. Applicants must sign an agreement confirming the use of funds for transition-related costs.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A PROGRAM MEMBER?

Program members are those whom Genderbands is assisting with fundraising. Get the benefits of being a vendor at Utah Trans Pride without having to actually be there! We will sell donated items on behalf of the member, who will be granted the sales income.

HOW DO I BECOME A PROGRAM MEMBER?

Use the application linked in the button below. Be aware, program space is limited so not everyone who applies will get in. Applications will be turned off when the limit is reached.

WHO CAN APPLY?

This program is for folx of any age on the trans spectrum who live in our service area and are raising funds for their transition. This program is ideal for small crafters/artists selling art, homemade crafts, or other items and who don't have their own stores.

CAN I APPLY IF I HAVE MY OWN STORE?

Yes but we only accept very small businesses; ones bringing in under $30,000 a year. Our goal is to give fundraising opportunities to those that would not otherwise have them.

WHERE DO YOU GET THE ITEMS YOU WILL SELL?

The items are donated by, and mailed at the expense of, the program member.

WHAT KIND OF ITEMS DO YOU ACCEPT?

Any reasonably sized items you might normally find at festivals or farmer's markets, excluding perishable items. These can be drawings, paintings, knitted crafts, jewelry, patches, stickers, etc. Items must be approved before acceptance into the program.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY ITEMS WHILE AT UTAH TRANS PRIDE?

A vetted Genderbands volunteer will set the donated items on display in our Paying-It-Forward booth. The volunteer will sell items provided by program members. Sales are tracked electronically.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER UTAH TRANS PRIDE?

Any unsold items will be mailed back to the program member; at the member's expense. Funds raised through sales will be granted to the program member via check. Program members will get a report of items sold.

DOES GENDERBANDS TAKE A CUT OF THE PROGRAM SALES?

Nope! The only money taken out of the sales income is the credit card processing fee.

DO I HAVE TO REPORT ON THE FUNDS USAGE?

Yes. Within 12 months of receiving the granted funds, program members need to report what the funds were used for and include at least one photo.
